President’s Pen – February 2009
Our speaker this month was Mac Motley, discussing Axonx video-based fire detection technology. I think we can all envision one or more applications for this interesting new technology. In keeping with the unbiased nature of our society, remember that there is at least one other vendor with similar technology, but we greatly appreciate Mac’s time and effort in sharing with us.
One of the main orders of business discussed was a proposal to revise the chapter by-laws related to awarding scholarship funds. We had some interesting and active discussion, but no particular conclusion was reached, and no formal change proposal was presented. However, I would say that the consensus process appears to be working – each discussion we have seems to address concerns that have been raised, and I think we are moving toward a consensus.
Patrick Thornton provided a Treasurer’s Report, as follows:
Checking $3,407.20
General Savings 406.06
Scholarship Savings 17,841.63
Scholarship CD 31,199.54
Total $52, 854.43
We had a total of 24 members, friends and guests present. An excellent turnout. Everyone’s interest and participation is highly appreciated.
Respectfully submitted
Jim Kern, President
